How long have you been a member of AASP?
After many years of being active on the FundSvcs listserv, I became a member of AASP in 2012.
What is a typical day like for you?
Due to the nature of my responsibilities, each day is like a new adventure for me! However, one thing that I try to do each day is to set aside some time on my schedule to make sure that I am up to date on the latest Caltech and industry news. Among the useful resources that I regularly check include the Caltech website, The Nucleus (our staff intranet), the FundSvcs listserv, CASE, EAB, The Chronicle, and other industry websites.
What do you enjoy most about AASP?
One of my favorite aspects of AASP is being able to connect with peers across the industry. I'm a firm believer of continuous education and having the ability to learn from each other and connect in person at conferences or virtually is always inspiring and thought provoking.
What is your favorite tip for someone in advancement services?
As Advancement Services professionals, I believe it is critical for us to connect with the mission of our institution. Make time to go to events, volunteer, and learn what colleagues are doing across your organization--not just those in development, but those in other administrative and programmatic areas, too.
What are your favorite hobbies/interests?
Outside of the office I am a huge supporter and advocate of the arts (theatre, film, music, visual art, etc.). In my spare time, I love to travel, enjoy great food and wine, and like to clear my mind while riding my bicycle around town.
