Director of Advancement Services and Campaign Management
Perot Museum of Nature and Science

How long have you been a member of AASP?
Having spent the majority of my career in the education/interpretation/engagement side of the museum world, I only recently transitioned to fundraising and advancement services, so I am new to AASP and just joined in June 2018.

What is a typical day like for you?
One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about museum work is the variety that each day brings. Nevertheless, I try to spend a portion of every day looking into different resources related to advancement services, prospect research, data analysis, and donor engagement strategies to expand my knowledge base, and at this point, getting to know my organization better and what our visitors, members, and donors enjoy about the museum.

What do you enjoy most about AASP?
I found the discussions and insights shared via FundSvcs to be an incredibly helpful resource. The real world examples provided by other members show that our work is often more complicated and nuanced than someone outside the field might think. Often the discussions emphasize the need for careful, deliberate and consistent thought as well as thorough documentation to support decisions.

What is your favorite tip for someone in advancement services?
It’s often so easy to lose sight of our organization’s mission and goals as we go about the day-to-day. It’s important for me not to lose sight of the fact that behind each transaction, each document, and each touchpoint I review there is a living and breathing, and often passionate and dedicated, member of our community who is drawn to our organization’s mission to effect positive change. So while my role is largely “behind the scenes,” I often look at what I can do to advance each relationship with external stakeholders forward.

What are your favorite hobbies/interests?
I enjoy running outdoors, playing racquetball, and taking my dogs on long walks.  Being new to the Dallas, Texas area, I’m also enjoying exploring the area and finding great spots for tacos and margaritas.
