The aasp Leadership Institute brings experienced Advancement Services leaders together to address challenges, share strategies, and advance the field. Designed as an interactive, peer-driven experience, the Institute provides an opportunity to engage with fellow leaders on the issues shaping Advancement Services today and in the future.
Applicants should be ready to participate actively in interactive sessions, peer exchanges, and discussions on innovation, partnership, and leading through change. Selection aims to form a balanced cohort across institution types, sectors, roles, leadership experience, and perspectives.
2026 Leadership Institute Experience
The 2026 aasp Leadership Institute offered a highly interactive, peer-driven experience for experienced Advancement Services leaders navigating rapid change across technology, strategy, partnership, and organizational culture. Through focused discussions on adopting innovation, assessing risk and resources, strengthening senior leadership partnerships, and redefining the strategic role of Advancement Services, participants explored practical ways to lead transformation with clarity, confidence, and purpose. The program created space for candid exchange, shared problem-solving, and actionable takeaways that leaders could bring back to their institutions.
For those considering the 2027 Leadership Institute, the experience offers a valuable opportunity to step away from day-to-day demands, connect with trusted peers, sharpen strategic thinking, and return better equipped to guide teams through complexity and change.
Participant Commitment
Participants are expected to attend the full Institute, contribute thoughtfully to discussions, and support a respectful, inclusive, and safe learning environment. Breaks will be provided so attendees can follow up on work commitments. During sessions, however, participants are expected to refrain from using cell phones and laptops.
Before proceeding with the application, be sure to be prepared with:
- A summary of your current role and responsibilities, including your leadership scope, team size, functional areas, institutional responsibilities, and/or cross-functional partnerships.
- Up to five leadership achievements or experiences, including dates, that demonstrate your readiness to participate in the Leadership Institute.
- Your motivation for applying, including why you’re interested in the Leadership Institute and what you hope to gain from the experience.
- What you would contribute to the cohort, such as your perspective, experience, sector or functional expertise, leadership style, or lessons learned.
- An example of how you have led or supported innovation, change, or technology adoption, along with what you learned from the experience.
- An example of how you approach partnerships with senior leaders, advancement colleagues, or institutional stakeholders—including a successful partnership or a challenge you’re currently working to address.
- A leadership challenge, question, or opportunity you’d like to explore with peers during the Institute.
Applicants who are not selected may be considered for a future cohort and may not need to reapply unless requested.
The application deadline is October 22, 2026.
